We held our annual company day at Belle Vue Stadium on Monday. With our team split across four locations, the day is a great opportunity for everyone to meet up. It also gives Gordon and I a chance to give the guys an update on how the business is going. I am glad to say things are looking very positive on all fronts for Trust IV; however the same can’t be said for the weather on Monday.

Speedway? Not one of the genres of motorcycling I really know about, I thought to myself. As a biker, sliding is not generally something I aim to do with the back wheel; I'd go as far as saying I very much try to avoid it! As for the surface being ridden, I recently had the chance to hit some dirt myself on a trail ride, an elating/terrifying experience and not one I wish to do sideways at 70mph. It's clear that both rider and machine are highly tuned performance machines.

The term, "Lies, damn lines and statistics" was popularised by Mark Twain and is used to describe the persuasive power of statistics, particularly when they are used to bolster a weak argument or make a spurious claim.

As a performance tester, I’m often given raw data and asked to find some hidden meaning in it.

Last Sunday saw over 40,000 participants run the Great Manchester Run. The 10km route flows past iconic Manchester landmarks such as Old Trafford and the Lowry; eventually finishing on Deansgate in the heart of city. The event saw a diverse mix of athletes, varying from Olympic champions such as Kenenisa Bekele and Tirunesh Dibaba, to novice runners who were running to raise funds for charities. It’s this mix that makes events like this so special.

Wednesday was the launch of Manchester Camerata’s business network, Camerata Connect. An innovative idea that combines likeminded businesses with world class musicians, the Camerata Connect vision was unveiled at UKFasts wonderful head office. A great evening was had by all attendees; however the highlight was the stunning collaboration by Saint Saviour and members of Camerata.

Since moving to Manchester I’ve been trying to have a healthier lifestyle. Unfortunately, my efforts have been hindered by all the good food, drink and entertainment available on my doorstep.

Quite frankly I needed to find a way to motivate myself. As a self-confessed gadget addict, a new piece of technology was just the thing prevent this fad from fading away.

In a thrilling climax to the season, Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions last Sunday, but things would have been very different if their website was a barometer of their performance on the pitch.

Thousands of customers (myself included) were left disappointed yesterday as Sky’s on-demand streaming service, Now TV, suffered major outages minutes after kick off on the title deciding final day of the Premier League season.

Last night Manchester was buzzing with the news that two of city’s restaurants were on the BBC2 programme “Restaurant Wars”. The programme showed the competition between these two world class restaurants as Simon Rogan’s “The French” restaurant based in the Midland Hotel near our Manchester Office “squared up” with Aiden Byrne’s “Manchester House” in Spinningfields.

A couple of weeks ago, my boss drew my attention to this ComputerWeekly article reporting on the European Cloud Expo Conference recently held in London. The article claimed that IT departments were failing to implement cloud solutions in the way that businesses want and that cloud providers are selling cloud solutions in the wrong way.
